Objectives
The primary objective of the County Development Board is to prepare a County Strategy for Economic, Social and Cultural Development and oversee its implementation. The strategy is a broad-based strategy covering all major service areas and is the result of up to two years of research and consultation. The strategy provides a "shared vision" for the development of the county for the next ten years:
- It requires a broad sense of direction, a view where the county is going or should be going, what it wants to achieve, what its problems and challenges are, and crucially how they are to be addressed.
- The vision of the county is one worked out and agreed by Board members who represent the various sectors.
The strategy will be delivered by the constituent members of the Board, each of whom will deliver on different elements through their own operational plans and services for the area. The development of a strategy of this nature represents a significant departure in policy formulation processes at a local level.
