Comhairle na nÓg
County Limerick Comhairle na nÓg is a forum which provides the opportunity for children and young people to discuss local issues which affect their day to day lives. Comhairle na nÓg was established under the National Children’s Strategy in November 2000, the first objective of this strategy is “Children will have a voice in matters that affect them and their views will be given due weight in accordance with their age and maturity”.
Comhairle na Nóg is an annual event which is held in the Council Chamber of Limerick County Council. Each year delegates are nominated by the young people of the Comhairle na nÓg to attend Dáil na nÓg (Youth Parliament). Who participates in the County Limerick Comhairle na nÓg?
Participants are selected by issuing invitations to the young people of various secondary schools, youth clubs and associations such as Limerick Youth Services, Foroige, Traveller Training Centres and Tipperary Youth Services. This ensures that the group who attend the forum provide a broad representation of young people’s views in County Limerick.
